Why This Topic is So Important…

  • 1
SUBSTANCE-USE ISSUES ARE RELEVANT FOR YOUR AGE GROUP
The opioid epidemic has shown that more and more people are struggling with substance use and addiction. From age 18 to 25, many individuals are beginning or increasing problematic substance use. Because these are formative years, problematic use during this time can set individuals up for decades of potential issues.
  • 2
MATERNAL SUBSTANCE USE CAN HAVE DIRECT IMPACTS ON BABIES
The development of a baby’s brain and other organ systems are ongoing for the length of the pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding. Using substances during these times can affect the development and wellbeing of babies, at birth and throughout their lives.
  • 3
MANY PEOPLE BECOME PREGNANT EVEN WHEN THEY AREN’T PLANNING TO
Half of all pregnancies are unplanned, and people often do not know they are pregnant for several weeks. Therefore, it is extremely important to be informed about your reproductive health before you become pregnant.

What Participants Had to Say About The Course...

“Oh, why don't I feel like… why haven't I heard this sooner!?”

"It was very educational; I really liked it. Because in high school you do talk about drugs, but you don't really go in depth to what it really entails and how it affects someone, especially if it's an unexpected pregnancy...I feel like a lot of people don't know how certain drugs affect them in pregnancy."
